In the past, when a 999 call was received by the ambulance service, a volunteer community responder was alerted in addition to an ambulance. However, due to circumstances beyond our control and linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, currently we are not able to deliver this life-saving service.
Instead, we have installed several Automated External Defibrillators around Storrington. They are accessible to everyone and are in bright yellow cabinets that are weather-proof. However, we expect to arrange CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training sessions which includes the use of defibrillators. These will be 'hands on' sessions and will be open to everyone. Further details will be posted here.
The Automated External Defibrillators (with towel/razor/scissors/etc.) are installed for the use of everyone and are located around the village of Storrington in the following locations:-
All of the equipment is housed in bright yellow cabinets outside these locations. They are catalogued, checked regularly and logged into the British Heart Foundation database. These are life-saving devices provided by donations from the people and organisations in the Storrington area. Recently, some of the ancillary equipment has been stolen from the cabinets and false reports stating that the defibrillators have been used and has been notified to the British Heart Foundation. This removes the defibrillator from the BHF database so that in a real emergency that particular defibrillator is not available. Such behaviour is irresponsible and could endanger someone's life. |
CPR training may enable YOU to save a life. That life could be a friend, someone in your family or YOU!
